The Bookshelf
May 9 through May 13, 2006
This is the begining of the bookshelf, just painting on the strips for the shelving.
The medium is still wet in this picture. It isn't white and gooey like that all the time! I asked friends what books had an affect on them, and went from that list for books on the chair. This row has, from left to right, The Little Prince, Me Talk Pretty One Day, The Joy Luck Club, The Bell Jar, Hamlet, The Catcher in the Rye, Lolita, The Odyssey, Light In the Attic, Silent Spring, The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, A Brief History of Time, and James and the Giant Peach.
Invisible Man, Of Mice and Men, Treasure Island, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Choclate War, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, The Call of Cthulu, Jane Eyre, The Handmaidens Tale, Breakfast at Tiffany's, The Wide Sargasso Sea, The Color Purple, The Power of Myth, and Howl.
The entire shelf in view. The third row has Beloved, Pride and Prejudice, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, The Outlaws of Sherwood, The Red Tent, The Hobbit, Ivanhoe, Leaves of Grass, A Tale of Two Cities, Alice in Wonderland, Fight Club, Cryptonomicon, 1984, and Charlotte's Web.
Progress!
May 12, 2006
It didn't fit up into my studio, so I have been working in the middle of my dining room. Here it is in progress, before the shelves were finished (or 'full').The Groucho Marx quote is "Outside of a dog, a book is a mans best friend. Inside a dog, it's much too dark to read."
