Jenny Howland aka "the Madwoman" started working as a bookbinder and collage artist as a form of personal therapy after her extensive battle with migraines and a rare brain disease. Always in love with books, she has found it extremely satisfying to experiment with as many forms, materials, and binding styles as she has been able to learn since officially starting the Madwoman in the Attic Design Studio in April of 2003. Her primary materials are metals, leathers and-- of course-- as many attractive papers as she can get her hands on. Her magnets are a whimsical sideline that she hopes you enjoy, and her decoupage ornaments, decorative pencils, and whimsical stationery help her to recycle the scraps from her bookbinding.
Although she is primarily self taught, she has recently completed her certificate as Master Craftsman in Bookbinding with Daniel Knowlton in Bristol, Rhode Island. She is also a member of the National and New England Guilds of Book workers, and the Artisan Women of Worcester. She lives in Lincoln, Rhode Island with her husband Matt and her two pugs Pumpkin and Henry.
